Big compliment! This book is fantastic. It tells you everything you need to know to grow mushrooms at home. Very detailed, still fun to read.

As I opened my e-copy of Richard Bray’s new book, Mushroom Cultivation, I became fascinated with growing mushrooms. Bray walks the reader through mushrooms from the science behind them to the steps required for a successful harvest. No longer will I view mushrooms as just a pizza topping.Richard Bray offers his readers the benefit of his own research and hard work by specifying the correct mushrooms for a particular situation. He identifies seven popular types (loved the excellent photos!) with pros and cons for each. Coupled with the thorough treatment of the mushroom types are explanations of the needed growing environments along with the preparation procedures and tools required for success. The author is a realistic grower who understands that things do go wrong, and he has included a diagnostic chapter describing potential problems along with suggested solutions. Nothing is left to chance for the grower who starts with this book.This book will appeal to curious readers who want to know more about mushrooms and to determined readers who want to grow their own. As with his other books, this is an informative read that is perfect for those of us looking to expand our gardening reach. I particularly appreciate the way these books are laid out, ensuring the reader understands the biology of the focus crop then providing the tools and methodologies to achieve multiple grow environments. These are necessary additions to any home gardeners' libraries.
This is a terrific introduction to the basics of mushroom growing, with an emphasis on the wide variety of mushroom types, and of their growing habits and needs. The several comparison charts are helpful, as are the step-by-step instructions for home cultivation. It's a good book for beginners, and also has enough in-depth information to be useful to experienced growers.

Well written guide on mushroom cultivation. It has all of the info you need to get started with your first mushroom harvest. It covers everything from basics about mushroom structure and life cycle to details on different mushrooms to grow and their respective growing methods - both indoors and outdoors. Great read!
I’m very interested in mushroom growing for a few years now and I‘ve read a plethora of books and articles about it. This a very good book providing a comprehensive overview for beginners and intermediates. Very clear language and easy to apply with a bunch of beautiful photos and illustrations.
Great source for every hobby mushroom cultivator. I found the overview of the different mushrooms particularly interesting (incl. their differences in taste, structure, ideal growing environment etc.). That information helped me to decide which mushrooms to grow. There is just so much choice in the incredible world of fungi.
