#2,027 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I don't want to give any spoilers away for the storyline, as the blurb is purposefully really vague - but I knew just from reading the prologue that Gym Junkie wasn't going to be a favourite read for me by this author. There was a lot going on in this story - Tully, Brock, another character that is integral to the storyline that I won't give details on due to possible spoilers, the suspense part playing out throughout. It was a very busy story.Brock is a complete OTT alpha. He doesn't have experience with how to treat, or deal with the emotions that come with having a girlfriend. His reactions can be extreme, and he tends to get angry when he doesn't know how to deal. He hasn't had a girlfriend in FOREVER, just sleeps with who he wants and moves on. Then there's Tully with her up and down and all over the place emotions and feelings. Her character was so frustrating at times. Don't even get me started on the other character that shall not be named. I liked the story, but I didn't love it.

I don't review most books I read but after having a WTF moment during this one and looking over the > 100 reviews here and seeing no one brought it up, I felt compelled to.I’ve never been a fan of the “Write what you know” adage. However having said that, I do expect an author to educate themselves on what they are writing beyond watching a few prime time television shows. In doing this, one would learn several things:- DNA has to be extracted before it can be tested. Extraction is an overnight process.- You do not use a microscope to get a “match” percentage. You create a DNA profile and use loci to include or exclude.- And a “99.5% match” to what? DNA retrieved from a body in lake? If a person is a suspect in a murder, the police should have enough to obtain a warrant for DNA.- Just because his DNA is found on her doesn’t mean he killed her.- Forensic scientists are not Jack-of-trades. They do not do run every test in lab and they do not participate in arresting a suspect. No, no, and h no.Because of this and the issues mentioned in other reviews, it would take a lot for me to pick up another book from this author.

Brock Marx owns and runs a very exclusive private investigator agency called Marx Security. Tully Scott is a Forensic Scientist with the Federal Police Force. Both meet in a gym! 😂 Both feel an intense sexual attraction to each other and decide that going to the gym might be even more fun than they thought possible. The story is told from both lead character’s points of view giving readers a valuable insight into what they are thinking, why they do the things they do and how they are feeling. It also enables the mystery of the murdered prostitutes to have pieces of the puzzle intricately woven throughout the story, very cleverly executed too.At times, I have to be honest, I just cracked up at the humour in the story, especially some of the scenes with Meredith..so so funny. There is quite a lot of fun banter between characters as well, especially the male ones, often sarcastic humour but witty none the less. The counter balance is the seriousness of the investigation into the deaths of the prostitutes as well as Tully’s relationship woes with Simon. You certainly go through a whole range of emotions with the characters, from laughing with happiness and crying with sadness to your heart racing with fear and raging in anger. As well the passion is super charged and off the charts flaming red hot. This is one incredible story about an alpha who has never had a relationship and an all in or nothing committed type of woman.

The plot has an uneven rhythm since the author has to resort to all kinds of coincidental encounters, fights, separations, terminal illness, surprise revelations and even a pseudo crime/suspense to be solved in order to create a relationship between the H/h and add or maintain the tension beetwen them. The end result is messy and unconvincing. The characters are not better, because the protagonists act too immature for the age they are supposed to have. And the secondary ones seems to live in a vacuum since they appear and disappear without rhyme or reason, and are only used in trying to push forward the slow plot (instead of adding depth or meaning to the story or the main characters). The author ends with two-dimensional, flat characters. The love relationship is nowhere to be found, as it is never clear how the H/h fell in love, but yes, there is plenty of sex. Unfortunately, the relationship never develops beyond the sexual aspect, and the "love" arises so quickly and suddenly that emotionally does not convince. The characters clearly fall in lust but not in love.It is hard to believe this is the same author who wrote "Find me, Alastar".What happened?

Tully is taking a break from her nine year relationship with Simon. Twelve months to work all her doubts and fears out, then they'll settle down, marry and grow their family. But when Tully meets Brock and they have a dirty rendezvous in the bathroom of the gym, Tully begins to question herself and her life. It's a tug of war with hearts broken and tempers flaring.Brock has never had a girlfriend and his anger issues scare the hell out of Tully. Simon loves Tully and has since they were fifteen. There is laughter, tears and frustration in this book but you won't want to put it down. It does have some editing errors, but they don't take away from the story.

Gym Junkie was SCORCHING hot!! Brock and Tully are such an amazing match and I loved their journey (and chemistry!).It's pretty safe to say that I'll forever be a TL Swan-junkie. Her women are strong and sassy, her men drool-worthy alpha-holes who leave us panting for more.If you don't like super-sexual men who take what they want (with the more-than-willing-woman's blessing) and give it back just as good, then her books aren't for you.But if you're one of the chosen who completely falls in love with each and every one of her men, you were born to be a member of the Swan-Squad clan. So go ahead and dive in - we're waiting to welcome you to the hot & horny side.
