Ways to cook chicken arranged by how it's used, in casseroles, in pastry, as a veal substitute (that's the one that I first got excited about), etc. Just made Chicken Saltimbocca last night. Probably the fanciest way to cook chicken I've ever made, and it wasn't hard. Recipe calls for prosciutto; I just used thin-sliced ham lunch meat. The combination of chicken, a little ham, sage, pepper, butter, Parmesan, and parsley was FANTASTIC. Will make again! Now I'm going through the book pretty darned carefully, looking for the next winner of a recipe for chicken. I think chicken breasts were smaller when the book was written (1986); but she says at the beginning of the "Could be Veal" section, "a breast half equals a single serving of 4 to 5 ounces;" if I have a breast half in hand that weighs 12 ounces, I just figure it's the same amount of meat as about 3 breast halves would have been back in 1986, and plan accordingly.
This is the book you can turn to if you like simple home cooking that also tastes great and make you look as if you really know how to handle yourself in the kitchen. Most of the recipes have few ingredients you already have on your kitchen. The recipes have that home, comfort food taste, no fusion - new age - latest creation - who can eat/cook that? madness.Our favorite ones are: #113 Chicken breasts with red pepper sauce, #116 Lemon chicken almondine, #118 Chicken roulades with mushroom sauce, #123 Pecan breaded chicken breast with dijon mustard sauce, #136 Sautéed chicken breasts cordiere, and #219 Cola oven BBQ (my husband's favorite since he was a kid!). And once a month, more or less, I like to try something new.If you have no experience at all in the kitchen, you can follow the recipe to the t and have really good results and if you have some experience you can tweak the recipes to your liking as they are very flexible. My only 2 suggestions: 1) get the spiral binding edition so you can lay it flat and 2) decrease the amount of Dijon mustard in every recipe by half if you like it strong or more if you, like us, just like the kick of the flavor (we use 1/3 of the suggested amount).
This is a fantastic book! If you serve chicken you be impressed with the variety of recipes. This is the third time I have purchased this book I give it as gifts
I have the recipes in the book to be very good. There are no pictures of the dishes which has required me to get used to selecting a recipe by ingredients not by the associated pretty picture.
I bought this book years ago. It was my go-to resource to make chicken interesting. Unfortunately, I lost my copy in my last move. Now I have it back. The recipes are well written and quite tasty. This time I won't lose my copy.
a great basic, simple cookbook that can save you for quick weeknight meals. I lost this cookbook years ago and have found myself looking for it whenever I wanted to make certain standby recipes. The Moroccan Chicken with sliced lemons is one of my favorites! A great workhorse when you can't stand the sight of yet another dull chicken recipe. I was so happy when I found it on Amazon and I reordered it. Harmony has been restored to my kichen!

This was the first cookbook I began using when I got married in the mid 90s and it was a great way to get started cooking, without being overwhelming. Prep times and cook times listed and are pretty accurate. This is a very good series - there's also 365 ways to cook pasta,365 low cal recipes and 365 fish & seafood recipes that I also bought and use. But the chicken one is the most worn, with tears and spills on it from most frequent use. 3 family favorites are #88 chicken with cream sauce, proscuitto and peas, red pepper chicken #113 and chicken marsala with mushrooms #106. This will always be a favorite cookbook in our house! I bought this copy as a gift for a relative who's starting to cook.

I chose this book because I wanted a sightseeing guide, not a general handbook for tourists. This book was neither. I waited for a new edition from this year and was disappointed to find that some of the information was not updated. Also, some of the map locations were inaccurate.Compared to the DK guide to Angkor Wat, this book was disappointing and not user friendly. Next time I will probably go with Rick Steves.
Let's face it, there are not many things to do in downtown Athens aside from the usual "must see" stuff (like Parthenon, Agora, some great museums, etc.). The city is huge, overcrowded, and has become somewhat dirty. Outside of Athens, there are so many other ruins and beautiful places to see (like Nafplio). The book is pretty descent with information outside of Athens. However, in my opinion, this book spends WAY too much space on Athens itself. If you spend more than a few days in Athens, I feel that you are really missing a LOT of what Greece has to offer. The fold out map is great for Athens itself, but other maps within the pages are not detailed enough for traveling the rest of the mainland. Pictures in Eyewitness Travel are wonderful... as usual. You may want to pair this book with other travel guides if you want to get outside the big city.
Great Product and Love the Price but you should advertise the date of the Edition prior to purchase. In this case four years old. Of course, the Parthenon didn't move but procedures and times do change. Last year, bought similar edition on Amsterdam and made our plans. When we arrived that tourist pass was no longer available except for Netherlands residents. Just advertise the edition date when advertised for sale. I'll likely still buy it but then it is my problem.
We just returned home from our trip to Athens, and I was very pleased with this book. The set up of the book was easy to follow and the information was very current and generally comprehensive. You do seem to sacrifice some detail for more pictures. That being said, the book is very easy to read and I enjoyed the images. This is not the book to get if you want a read long history of every site, but there is good general information. The maps within the book, and the city map included in the back were a huge help. We were able to navigate the city with ease.
I will buy these guide books again; my friends were impressed and excited about how well this book helped us along our trip
The colorful photos and diagrams found in the DK travel books are a big plus for some and a major detraction for others. Personally I think this is a great book to use while making preliminary travel plans because it's very difficult to decide where to go if you can't see pictures of it first. Then once you narrow down your choices you'll want a more comprehensive travel guide, such as the Lonely Planet guides, which contain better maps, travel information, hotels, etc, but which have very few photos. I'm holding off on giving this book 5 stars because it lacks that kind of detail. However, I still pull it off my shelf frequently when I want to look up someplace on the Greek mainland I have not visited before.
Essential guide for our trip to Greece. Wouldn't travel without one of these.
